Monitoring & Control (Baseline & EVM)

Chapter Video: Baseline, Updating & EVM

⏳ COMING SOON

Good planning is half the battle. The other half is monitoring actual execution and controlling deviations.

1. Saving the Approved Plan (Baseline)

Once the consultant approves your schedule, "freeze" it:

  1. Go to Project → Maintain Baselines.
  2. Click Add"Save a copy of the current project as a new baseline".
  3. Name it: "B1 - Approved Construction Program".
  4. Go to Project → Assign Baselines and select it.
💡 How to spot delays? Display the Baseline bar (yellow) on the Gantt chart. If the current bar extends beyond the yellow one = you're behind schedule!

2. The Data Date

The Data Date is the dividing line between past and future:

"No actual work can be recorded after the Data Date, and no planned work should remain before it."

3. Updating Actuals

Open the Status tab in the bottom Activity Details panel:

  • Started but not finished: Check Started + enter Actual Start Date + Physical % Complete or Remaining Duration.
  • Fully completed: Check both Started and Finished + enter actual dates.
  • Suspended: Use Suspend Date and Resume Date fields.
⚠️ Don't forget F9! After updating, always press F9 to reschedule and recalculate the critical path.

4. Earned Value Management (EVM)

  • PV (Planned Value): How much work was planned to be done?
  • EV (Earned Value): How much work was actually accomplished (at baseline price)?
  • AC (Actual Cost): How much was actually spent?

SPI = EV / PV

SPI > 1: Ahead 🚀 | SPI < 1: Behind 📉

Use the EVM Calculator or display SPI & CPI columns directly in P6.
